Our Pre-Kindergarten class has been busy planting a mini herb and flower garden in our playground with one of the children’s Aunts. After planting an indoor vegetable garden, we decided to see how the process unfolds outside. A family volunteer created a hanging garden, which she donated, and provided everything the children needed to create their herb and flower patch. The children used all their senses throughout this experience and are now responsible for the daily maintenance of their garden, and each day make new discoveries.

Classroom Facilities
At Active Kidz, children are given the opportunity to explore the environment (the third teacher) and materials and participate in a variety of open-ended activities. Experiences are carefully planned through observations and implemented in an open-classroom setting where each child’s learning and development is supported.
Children are free to choose from age-appropriate activities including art and sensory, music and movement, language development, pre-math and math skills, science/discovery and nature, and dramatic play. Children develop a sense of belonging, self-esteem, independence and problem-solving skills as they make choices and assist in planning the environment and the activities.

Teachers
- All of our Early Childhood Educators are registered with The College of ECE’s.
- Every staff submits a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to interacting with the children.
- Every person on site is trained in First Aid & CPR Level C and recertifies as required.
- All RECE’s participate in Continuous Professional Learning as required by The College of ECE’s.
- Every staff member completes a health assessment before commencing employment.
Education
Taking knowledge of child development, knowledge of how children learn and a well-grounded understanding of children’s play, our early educators construct a living curriculum that truly reflects the interests and needs of the children in their care.
Development
Our play based program is intended to identify what children are expected to learn and be able to do in all developmental areas. The curriculum is designed to help our children achieve their individual potential and create a positive future for themselves, their families and their communities.
Activities
The curriculum in our high quality program is sensitive to the needs, interests and background experiences of the children. It integrates all content areas to provide a solid foundation for learning in language, literacy, math, science, social studies, health, art, music and movement. The program at Active Kidz responds to the nature of the learner, rather than trying to “fit” the children to the curriculum.
Friendship
Our primary goal is for children to feel safe and secure by building positive and responsive relationships among children, parents and educators. Prior to being independent, a child must know that he or she can depend on adults and a predictable environment. Children are treated with respect and kindness and in turn are encouraged to interact and communicate in a positive manner. We recognize that children develop at different rates and have different interests. Small group sizes and appropriate teacher-child ratios allow for meeting the individual needs of each child.
